John Brower has spent decades at the leading edge of contemporary culture.
His gallery, Venice Modern Art, owns one of only three vinyl covers by Jean-Michel Basquiat—The Offs First Record (1984)—alongside Beat Bop by Rammellzee vs. K-Rob and Hurry Up Tomorrow by The Weeknd.
VMA also represents a once-thought-lost Albert Einstein letter dated June 23, 1953 on free speech, coming to market soon.
Brower launched Toronto’s club and festival scene in 1968 with The Rockpile, where Led Zeppelin, The Who and Jeff Beck made their North American debuts. His Toronto Rock and Roll Revival, held September 13, 1969 at Varsity Stadium, brought together 1950s rock legends and contemporary stars. The lineup featured Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent and a young Alice Cooper, and was headlined by The Doors and John Lennon with the Plastic Ono Band—making their debut.
He later produced the Strawberry Fields Festival and the legendary punk/new wave festival HEATWAVE.
At MiCannes, Brower will present his film REVIVAL69, telling the extraordinary story behind getting John Lennon on stage—and share firsthand stories from a life at the center of music history.
