Tracey Larcombe
Tracey Larcombe is a highly skilled director specialising in crafting compelling narratives for high-end television drama, comedy, and short film. Her extensive experience with SKY and the BBC has solidified her reputation for delivering visually striking and emotionally resonant storytelling.
Tracey recently directed the critically acclaimed South African true-crime drama Catch Me a Killer, which earned international recognition with its selection for SeriesMania’s prestigious International Panorama competition. Praised for its cinematic vision and quality, the series drew comparisons from the industry to Mindhunter and Silence of the Lambs. The score and title music were composed and performed by ‘Editors’ lead guitarist Justin Lockey. Tracey and Justin worked closely throughout the shooting & post production process to create a unique score, incorporating the atmosphere & sounds of the landscape & environment of South Africa, combined with the intensely dark tone of the psychological thriller.
With a diverse and impressive portfolio, some other notable work includes 4 part series Innocent 2 for ITV, Silent Witness, Death in Paradise, Holby City, Casualty and Bafta nominated series The Dumping Ground for the BBC, showcasing her versatility in a range of genres.
Tracey’s latest series Jack the Ripper: Written in Blood is an exciting and original look at the Whitechapel murders of 1888, the media frenzy of which culminated in the birth of the tabloid press. The series documents the grisly murders, the pressmen’s part in misleading the police investigation, and the invention of the world famous ‘Jack the Ripper’ moniker. The 3 part series is now showing on Sky History and Now TV.
Tracey has always been keen to use commercial music for her projects; two notable examples being Silent Witness, for which she contacted Luke Sital Singh (on instagram!) regarding a track she wanted to use on an episode, and he agreed. On the night the episode was broadcast the particular track which, instead of the usual title music, was played over the end credits of the show, had over 100k downloads as a result.
On her episodes of Death in Paradise Tracey featured two new singles from new artist Louis Van Johnson in two episodes. The show regularly has an audience of 8m viewers and is sold to over 250 countries worldwide.
Along with her broadcast credentials, Tracey also has a slate of her own exciting and diverse projects in various stages of development, including a Christmas feature film, an 8 part psychological drama series, and a comedy drama feature she has co-written with David Baddiel. With a collaborative approach, skilled leadership and dedicated commitment to creating a supportive on-set environment, Tracey has a reputation for delivering high-end productions with the utmost care and creativity.
