Youth
Producer / Mixer / Writer / Artist (UK)
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome a true legend of the music industry, Youth, to the producer panel at MiCannes. Few figures in modern music have shaped so many genres across so many decades — his presence here is something we consider a genuine honour.
Born in Slough and forged in the fires of the late-70s punk scene, Youth first made his mark as the original bass player in Killing Joke before co-founding Brilliant with future KLF member Jimmy Cauty. In the early 90s, his Blue Pearl project scored a UK Top 5 hit with Naked in the Rain, while he simultaneously pioneered the psychedelic trance movement, founding the seminal Dragonfly Records label and collaborating across the scene with artists like Simon Posford.
As a producer, Youth’s catalogue is staggering. He co-produced The Verve’s iconic Urban Hymns, and has worked with Kate Bush, U2, Primal Scream, Crowded House, Erasure, Guns N’ Roses, Paul McCartney and countless others. His Butterfly Records label launched careers and his influence across rock, electronic, dub and ambient music is immeasurable.
The accolades speak for themselves — a PPL Music Producers Guild Lifetime Achievement Award (2016) and a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2021 for Toots and the Maytals’ Got to Be Tough. Youth is, simply put, one of the greats.
