Kavita Varu

Lawyer By Day, DJ By Night. “During lockdown, most people bought dogs; I bought decks.”

If you can, you can! Proving that you don’t need to stick in one lane in life, this incredible Indian (Ugandan) woman from Sheffield is a lawyer by day and an international, award-winning DJ by night! Discovering solace in music during lockdown and having entered her 50s, Kavita bought herself some decks to learn a new skill, and it turned out to be one she excelled at!

Kavita successfully pivoted her life as a lawyer by building her DJ-ing business during lockdown. Her inspiring story has been covered by the BBC - including Woman’s Hour with Anita Rani & BBC Yorkshire - and was published in The Times newspaper.

As “DJKavita”, she has been support warm up DJ for Pete Tong, K KLass, Ce Ce Rogers, Graeme Park, Alfredo, Paco Fernandes. She has been asked to attend festivals and corporate events including at the 2023 British Grand Prix. Prior to Xmas 2023, she closed out a set headlined by The Pussycat Dolls’ Kimberly Wyatt.

A truly inspiring example of going where life takes you, Kavita says: “I love this second profession with passion and will continue to share the love of music and entertaining club-goers wherever my journey takes me.” Winner of 2023 Inspiring Indian Women’s “She Inspires Rising Star” Award, nominated by the local MP and which she collected at the Houses of Parliament.
